Peanut Butter Keto Fat Bombs
Embrace the Fat
Most of us have spent our lives avoiding fat. Making the adjustment to not just eating fat but embracing fat can be tough. And if you’ve ever wondered... how the hell am I gonna eat that much more fat (typically 70-75% of daily macros) on keto?... fat bombs like these are key! Although there are other fat bombs out there that contain more fat, these are dairy-free and still have a considerable amount of fat given the size. These are a great dessert to have directly after lunch or dinner to hit your macros. Side note: I've been recently limiting my snacks between meals because A) I'm rarely ever hungry between meals while eating keto and B) snacks can raise blood sugar levels (something I've been testing out as I learn more about insulin resistance. Post coming soon!)
What is a keto fat bomb exactly?
Fat-bomb? ball? bites? Meh - Tomato, To-mah-to as far as I'm concerned.. we're all talking about the same thing here: a low-carb, low-protein but high-fat dessert. It’s a great way to increase your fat uptake while on keto, while also avoiding the ol hanger thing. They’re quite similar to energy balls, but keto bombs skip the oats, grains and sweeteners that make up most of those. Instead, they’re packed with healthy fats like nut butters, ghee, and other tasty, high-fat foods.
Why am I switching to Keto?
If you've been following along on Insta, you know that I've been doing a 30 day keto challenge! However, I'm already thinking about extending it to 60 days, as I don't think a month is enough time to really feel the effects of this drastic change in macro ratios. And since this is a drastic change in fuel for my body, I made sure to gradually introduce a higher percentage of fats into my diet BEFORE I actually started this challenge to get my body (re: liver) ready.
I've been doing a RIDIC amount of research about this style of eating and will be doing a 30 day update on June 20th (subscribe here to stay updated :)). Spoiler alert: there is SO much involved with keto...I'm learning about insulin resistance, liver problems, balancing hormones and much, much more. I may sound like a broken record here, but I want to stress that I'm primarily motived by the health benefits that keto could potentially have on my body. Sure, the residual weight loss that naturally occurs with this eating style is def an added bonus, let's be real. BUT when it comes down to it, weight loss is my secondary motivation and optimal health will always be my first priority.
It's important to have a healthy relationship with food,. If you find something that you love and that works for you - go for it! On the flip side, even if you're seeing physical results but are absolutely miserable, do some research and see what you can do to make it your own. That's exactly what I'm doing with keto, as I don't eat red meat and very little dairy... a far cry from the traditional keto meal plan.
Without further adieu... feast your eyes, mouths and everything else on these super easy, four ingredient, dairy free, sugar free bombs of keto deliciousness!!!
